For "Better Homes & Icons" I created images that challenge symbolic stereotypes and images that have a whole meaning in itself while providing greater insight when pondered further. The goal of my art is to embrace and articulate the roles that media place on our society and contradict that fantasy with a dash of reality. Many of the pieces were influenced from ads that appeared in 1950’s popular magazines and personal stories.

"Better Homes & Icons" started out strictly as a Polaroid transfer series, in 2006 I expanded the series to imclude black & white and sculpture works. For the Polaroids in this series, I "lifted" the emulsion from projected images on Polaroid film and transferred emulsions to watercolor paper,  glass, draft film, a ladle, a baking sheet, and even an apron and an antique glass wash board. As with all of my work, I hand print the black & whites on fiber based paper then tone them for archival and tonal qualities. Each work is titled. numbered, and signed on the back. All are a limited edition of five. Even though the Polaroids are in an edition of five, each is a one-of-a-kind original.
